BALTIMORE, MD - The men's and women's swimming teams won 14 of 18 events against Washington and Lee to defeat the Generals 106-97 and 107-86 at Johns Hopkins' Newton H. White Athletic Center. The Blue Jay men improved to 9-3 while the women evened their record at 5-5.
The men opened the day with a one-two finish in the 200 medley relay as Dan Kim, Tyler Harris, J.P. Balfour and Andrew Stirn (1:39.21) edged Sean Kim, Vincent Tupper, Brian Sneed and Dave Strickland (1:40.63). Matt Fedderly placed first in the 1000 free, coming in over 10 seconds before the next finisher, and Harris and Sneed followed that performance with a one-two finish in the 50 free.
Balfour and Sean Kim took first and second in the 200 IM, and Dan Kim (100 fly), Brad Test (100 free) and Sean Kim (500 free) also placed first in their events before the Blue Jays swam exhibition in the final two events.
In the women's events, Stephanie Leaman won the 1000 free with a time of 11:07.87, over 20 seconds ahead of teammate Meghan Bullock, who placed second. Erica Pakkala and Caitlin Kunkel also went one-two in the 200 free while Katie Herbst and Betsy Maragakes took first and second in the 200 IM.
Hopkins then received first-place finishes from Diana Smirnova (100 fly), Allie Foster (100 free), Pakkala (100 back) and Herbst (500 free) before swimming exhibition in the 100 breaststroke and 200 free relay.
Hopkins travels to UMBC on February 5.
