BALTIMORE, MD - The 13th-ranked Navy water polo team scored three of the game's final four goals to edge out a 10-8 league win over Johns Hopkins on Tuesday afternoon. The score was tied at seven before the Midshipmen rallied to their second win over the Blue Jays this season. Navy won 13-5 on September 10.
Hopkins jumped to a 2-0 first-quarter lead, with freshman Alex Bond recording both goals, but Navy pulled ahead with four unanswered goals in the second period to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.
The Blue Jays and Midshipmen each scored three times in the third quarter, as senior Robert Bates and freshman Peter Davis and Josh Kratz tallied one goal apiece for Hopkins. Navy entered the quarter ahead 4-2 and led 6-3 before Hopkins closed in 6-4 and ended the period trailing by two goals, 7-5.
Sophomore Sean McCreery opened the final quarter with two straight goals to tie the game at seven with 4:35 to play. Navy then capitalized on its man-up opportunities and on Blue Jay turnovers, scoring the next two goals to pull ahead 9-7 with 1:20 remaining. Senior James Singleton scored one last time for Hopkins before the final minute but Navy answered with a security goal to clinch the 10-8 win.
Navy entered the game ranked third in the CWPA league, while Johns Hopkins was fourth. The Blue Jays return to action at the Claremont Convergence this coming weekend.
