BALTIMORE, MD - Senior Meighan Roose scored one goal and added an assist to lead the Johns Hopkins field hockey team to a 3-0 win over Washington & Lee at Homewood Field on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays evened their record at 2-2, while the Generals dropped to 0-1 with their season-opening loss.
Hopkins is now 3-0 all-time against Washington & Lee and has shut out the Generals in the last two meetings. The Blue Jays won 2-0 in Lexington last year.
Johns Hopkins dominated Washington & Lee throughout the game, taking 22 shots while holding the Generals to just five. Junior Leah Dudley scored the first goal of the day at 18:38 when she lobbed a shot over the line of defense and the head of the Generals' goalkeeper, senior Courtney Harrison. Her goal, the second of her season, was set up by a corner from freshman Leah Horton.
The Blue Jays took a 2-0 lead before halftime, as Roose scored her second goal of the year at 29:39 off a pass from sophomore Lori Vislocky. Johns Hopkins led 11-2 on shots and 11-4 on corners at the break.
Roose set up the final score of the game when she found senior Caite Kappel open for an easy shot in front of the goal at 48:58. The Blue Jays held on to their 3-0 lead to pick up their second win of the year and break a two-game losing skid.
Harrison finished with 16 saves for the Generals, while Hopkins' junior keeper Dayna Eng made four saves in the win.
The Blue Jays visit Salisbury this Wednesday, September 14, at 4:30 p.m.
