GETTYSBURG, PA - Senior Meg Goddu scored all three goals to help the #18 Gettysburg field hockey team cruise past Johns Hopkins 3-0 in the Blue Jays' Centennial Conference season-opener on Wednesday. The Bullets improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Blue Jays fell to 3-5, 0-1 CC.

Goddu, who entered the game with a team-high and conference-best 10 goals, added her first goal of the day 6:28 into action when sophomore Krissy Browning fed her for the shot. Goddu struck again less than three minutes later, this time off a feed from senior Lauren Eby. Neither team scored for the final 25:40 of the half, as Gettysburg entered the break with the 2-0 lead.

The Bullets held an 8-2 advantage on shots and a 4-0 lead on penalty corners in the first half. Hopkins junior Dayna Eng made four saves, while Gettysburg sophomore Katherine Corkhill was unchallenged in goal.

The second half was closer, as both teams earned two penalty corners. The Blue Jays got off three shots and held Bullets to just four, but junior Leah Dudley had Hopkins' only shot on goal for the game. Goddu sealed the shutout at 44:39 with her third goal, set up by senior Becky Latta.

Gettysburg finished ahead in shots (12-5) and penalty corners (6-2), as they improved their all-time series lead over Johns Hopkins, 14-11-1. Eng recorded six saves in goal.

The Blue Jays return to action at Homewood Field this Saturday, October 1, when they host Muhlenberg at 1 pm.
