LEXINGTON, VA - The Johns Hopkins women's swimming team closed the dual-meet portion of its 2005-06 season with a convincing 156-103 win at Washington & Lee Saturday morning. The Blue Jays finish with a 5-5 record on the year and will now prepare for the conference and NCAA Championships.
Hopkins got first-place finishes in 11 of 14 events and had three individuals win a pair of events. Freshman Kristin Cunningham placed first in both the 1000-free (11:06.05) and the 200 breast (2:33.45), while classmate Elissa Stautner won both the 200 free (2:00.42) and the 500 free (5:22.68). Senior Katie Herbst was the other double winner for the Blue Jays as he won both the 200 fly (1:16.18) and the 100 fly (1:03.45).
Other individual winners for the Blue Jays included Jessica Chang in the 100 breast (1:11.12), Kalei Walker in the 50 free (26.15) and Kate Hansen in the 200 IM (2:16.89). Hopkins also won both relays contested, the 200-medley relay (1:54.66) and the 200 free relay (1:43.45).
The Blue Jays will next be in action from February 16-18 when they compete in the Blue Grass Invitational with hopes of solidifying additional qualifiers for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships.
