Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins and Ursinus field hockey teams met on Saturday afternoon with the Centennial Conference regular season title on the line. The #8 Bears rallied for a 2-1 win over the upset-minded Blue Jays in Collegeville. With the win, Ursinus will host the Centennial Conference Tournament this coming weekend. Hopkins, the #2 seed, will play #3 McDaniel.

Hopkins jumped on Ursinus early, when sophomore Emily Miller (Garden City, NY/Garden City) scored her team-leading 16th goal of the season at 11:19. Freshman Catie Farrow (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon) picked up her first career assist on the goal. Ursinus answered at 20:42 with an unassisted strike from Jess Rogers, knotting the score at 1-1.

The teams went into the half tied and it remained that way until 49:31 of the second half. Melissa Buckley scored off a penalty corner, giving Ursinus a 2-1 lead. The Bear defense buckled down after that and held on for the win.

Eng's nine saves give her 288 for her career, heading into postseason play. That ranks her fifth all-time in the program's history. She is 19 saves shy of fourth-ranked Wendy Atkinson (1980-83). Miller's 42 points this season rank are tied for the second most in a single season. Her 16 goals are also tied for the second most in a single season, while her 10 assists are the tied for the third most. She is just four points shy of tying Ashley Robbins single-season record of 46 points.

Hopkins will have a week off to rest and prepare for the 2006 Centennial Conference Tournament in Collegeville, PA. The schedule for the tournament will be announced on Monday. Check with HopkinsSports.com for updates.
