NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The Johns Hopkins field hockey team suffered a 3-1 loss to Christopher Newport on Sunday, falling to 1-2 on the season. It was the first win of the season for the Lady Captains who are now 1-2 this season.
Haylie Black opened the scoring for CNU in the first half on an unassisted goal. Diana Golden scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon just over 90 seconds later to give the Lady Captains a 2-0 lead. Freshman Andrea Vandersall (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet) scored her first career goal just 8:17 into the second half to make it a one-goal game. But Golden struck again with under seven minutes to play in the game to push Christopher Newport's lead back up to two goals.
Senior goalie Dayna Eng (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) made eight save in the loss for the Blue Jays. The Lady Captains held the edge in penalty corners 9-6. Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 13 for the first of three straight home games. The Jays kick off the homestand against Salisbury at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
