EWING, NJ - A two-goal second half was not enough for #7 Johns Hopkins Tuesday night as the visiting Blue Jays fell 4-3 to the #5 TCNJ Lions. The loss ended a modest two-game win streak for the Blue Jays, whose record falls to 11-3. The Lions improve their record to 10-2 on the season.
Hopkins struck first when sophomore Gabi Henn (Lambertville, NJ/South Hunterdon) scored off a low shot with the assist to junior Leah Horton (Wayne, PA/Upper Merion Area) at 7:12. TCNJ responded with three straight to take a 3-1 lead. Katie Reuther knotted the game at 1-1 less two minutes after Hopkins took the early lead. A pair of goals just 27 seconds apart at 20:09 and 20:36 made it a 3-1 game. Leigh Mitchell struck first, followed by Ashleigh Percherski.
Trailing by two coming out of half time, junior Adair Landy (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) pulled Hopkins to within one just 6:11 into the second. Once again, the Lions had a quick answer, as Jenny Lubin scored just 1:26 after Landy's goal to make it a 4-2 game.
Henn cut the lead to one with 17:11 remaining in the game, knocking home a loose ball for her second of the night. That would be all the scoring in the game as the Lions held on for the 4-3 win.
Sophomore Sophia Tieu (Cupertino, CA/Cupertino) finished with seven saves in the loss for the Blue Jays. While Caitlin Gregory finished with five saves in the cage for the Lions. TCNJ had the edge in shots (24-9) and corners (8-4) in the game.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday when Bryn Mawr visits historic Homewood Field. The Centennial Conference match is set for 1:00 pm.
