BALTIMORE, MD - Four players scored as #7 Johns Hopkins shut out visiting McDaniel 4-0 in Centennial Conference action Wednesday night. The Blue Jays, now tied atop the conference standings with Ursinus, improve to 12-3 overall and 8-0 in the conference. The Green Terror fall to 5-12 overall and 3-6 in the Centennial.
Hopkins jumped on the board early when junior Adair Landy (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) scored just 69 seconds in. Junior All-American Emily Miller (Garden City, NY/Garden City) backhanded the ball across the mouth of the cage and Landy tapped it in for her 10th of the season. Miller gave the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead at 10:26 when she fired a hard shot underneath goalie Erika Wawzyanick for her 12th of the season.
The Blue Jays added one more before the half to take a 3-0 lead. Senior Lucy Webster (Greenwich, CT/Deerfield Academy) took a penalty corner for Hopkins. She sent the ball to sophomore Chantal Serle (Columubs, OH/Columbus Academy), who fired a hard shot on the goal. Graduate student Leah Dudley (Westborough, MA/Westborough) deflected it past Wawzyanick for her second of the season.
Webster closed out the scoring for the Blue Jays at 39:57. Dudley took a shot off a Webster penalty corner. Wawzyanick got her pad on the ball but it rebounded out to Webster, who buried it in the goal to make it 4-0.
Sophomore goalie Sophia Tieu (Cupertino, CA/Cupertino) finished with two saves to earn her third shutout of the season. Wawzyanick finished with nine saves in the loss. Hopkins had the edge in shots (18-3) and penalty corners (18-1).
Hopkins returns to action on Satuday, October 27. The Blue Jays travel to Collegeville, PA to face the #6 Ursinus Bears in a showdown of the top two teams in the Centennial Conference. The match is scheduled for noon.
