GETTYSBURG, PA - Gettysburg opened up a 25-point lead at the half and rolled to a 68-38 victory over the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team on Tuesday night in Gettysburg, PA. The Blue Jays (2-4, 1-2 CC) remain winless on the road in three tries this year and was plagued by turnovers with 32 on the night.
Hopkins led 4-2 with 16:34 to go in the first half after a bucket by freshman Lyndsay Burton (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central). That was the last lead the Blue Jays would hold in the game as Gettysburg went on a 15-0 run to turn a two-point deficit into a 13-point lead. The Bullets held a 17-4 advantage with 9:26 to go in the first half. Allie Drechsler and Megan Hartman each knocked down four for the Bullets during that stretch. A jumper by sophomore Britni Lonesome (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic) broke up the Bullets' run at 7:59. Gettysburg responded with an 18-4 run to close the first half and lead 35-10 at the break. The Bullets got four points from Kelly Anderson and five from Nicole Dobranski. Gettysburg shot 50% in the first half compared to Hopkins' 19%.
Hopkins hit the first two baskets of the second half but Gettysburg responded with a 9-5 run to lead 44-21 with 10:57 to go in the game. Sarah DePaolo (Asheville, NC/Westover) hit a lay-up with 9:19 to go in the game to cut the Blue Jays' deficit to 19 but that was as close as the Blue Jays would get the rest of the way. A jumper by Courtney Fields with 5:39 to go in the game made it a 59-31 contest. Gettysburg scored nine of the final 16 points in the contest for the final margin of victory.
Gettysburg placed three players in double figures led by Fields' 14 points and eight rebounds. Hartman and Caitlin Moser each knocked down 11 for the Bullets. Nicole Dobranski was the leading rebounder for the Bullets with nine boards.
Hopkins was led by Burton, who had eight points, five rebounds, a block and three steals. Senior Andrea Dodrill (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) was the leading rebounder for the Blue Jays with seven.
Hopkins is back in action on Saturday, December 8 at Dickinson. Game time in Carlisle is set for 2 p.m.
