COLLEGE PARK, MD - The #4 Maryland Terrapins (7-1) used a game-opening 9-1 run to propel them to a 22-15 win over #13 Johns Hopkins (4-3) Wednesday night. The Blue Jays have lost two games in a row for the first time in two years. Senior attacker Mary Key (Stevensville, MD/St. Mary's) led Hopkins with eight points (5g, 3a) to move into 11th place in NCAA history with 312 career points.

The Terrapins came out firing in the first half, jumping out to a 9-1 run in the first 12 minutes of the game. The Blue Jays stemmed the tide when fifth-year senior Sarah Walsh (Port Washington, NY/P.D. Schreiber) found Key behind the net. Key curled around and fired a low shot past Allie Buote at 13:12. That goal sparked a quick three goal run by the Blue Jays, with senior Alex Nolan (Baltimore, MD/Roland Park) and Key both finding the twine in the next 1:46. Leading 9-4, Maryland outscored Hopkins 5-2 over the last 13:33 of the half to head into the break with a 14-7 lead.

Hopkins came out quick in the second, with Key scoring her third of the day just 1:17 when she picked up a loose ball and rifled a shot past Buote. The Terrapins answered with three straight, pushing their lead out to 17-8. Hopkins did not back down, responding with a 4-1 run to cut the deficit to six with 8:35 to play. Freshman Kim Dubansky (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) scored to start the run when she popped the ball up to herself while streaking towards the cage. She caught the ball and then fired a shot that beat Buote for her second of the season. Lauren Cohen came right back with a goal for Maryland to make it 18-9. But junior Lauren Schwarzmann (Sykesville, MD/Century) scored twice, followed by Key, making the scored 18-12.

The game was back-and-forth for the final 8:35 as the Blue Jays could get no closer than seven. Key's three assists give her 118 for her career, just two shy of tying the Hopkins all-time record held by Francine Brennan ('96). Walsh tied a career-high with four assists to go with her 10th goal of the season. Schwarzmann, Nolan and freshman Sam Schrum (Pasadena, MD/St. Mary's) all had multi-goal games for the Blue Jays. Walsh's four assists push her into fourth place in Hopkins Division I history with 51 career assists. Maryland was led by Dana Dobbie and Cohen with six goals each.

Sophomore Amelia Harris (Clifton, VA/J.W. Robinson) played 24:31 in net for Hopkins and finished with four saves. Freshman Lizzie O'Ferrall (Baltimore, MD/Mount De Sales) played 35:29 and made six saves. Buote finished with 14 saves for the Terrapins.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, March 24 when the #20 Oregon Ducks visit Baltimore. The game is set to begin at 5:00 pm at Homewood Field.
