SWARTHMORE, PA - Senior Andrea Dodrill scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the second half as the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team defeated Swarthmore 88-65 on Saturday afternoon in Swarthmore. The Blue Jays (5-8, 3-5 CC) won their first road game of the year and have won three of their last four contests.
Swarthmore led 5-1 with 18:22 to play in the first half behind a traditional three-point play from freshman Kathryn Stockbower. Hopkins responded with a 5-2 run to tie the game at 7 with 15:18 to go in the first stanza. The two teams traded baskets over the next couple of minutes with a lay-up by Britni Lonesome tying the game at 13 all with 10:45 to play in the first half. The basket by Lonesome started a 16-3 run by the Blue Jays that gave Hopkins a 29-18 advantage with 5:03 to play in the first stanza. Junior Jonay Foster knocked down seven for the Blue Jays during the stretch. Hopkins scored 12 of the final 20 points in the half to take a 41-28 lead into the locker room. Freshman Siobhan Callanan scored a career-high eight points in the first half.
A jumper by freshman Lyndsay Burton at 15:12 of the second half gave Hopkins a 51-34 lead in the contest. Leading 57-37, Dodrill had six points in less then a minute to make the Blue Jays' lead 63-39. Hopkins outscored Swarthmore 25-22 over the final nine minutes. The Hopkins lead never fell below 21 points the rest of the way and Hopkins had an 88-65 victory.
Hopkins shot 51.5% from the field and were led by Dodrill, who matched her season-high with 18 points and collected seven rebounds. Burton set a career-high with 17 points and added nine rebounds. Foster contributed nine points, four assists and five steals.
Ceylan Bodur led Swarthmore with 17 points while Stockbower added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Hopkins returns to action on Monday at St. Mary's at 3 p.m.
