BALTIMORE, MD - A 15-4 run over the final six minutes lifted the Johns Hopkins women's basketball over McDaniel 65-62 on Thursday night in Baltimore. Junior Caitlin Sloane (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's) had all eight of her points in the crucial run as Hopkins (6-9, 4-5 CC) came back to win for the first time this year when trailing at the half.

Hopkins entered the second half trailing by eight points. The two teams traded baskets coming out of the locker room as a three-pointer by Courtney Gogolinski at 15:59 put McDaniel up 46-37. Another trey from Kim Staub put the Green Terror up 51-41 with 13:29 to play in the contest. Hopkins scored seven of the next nine to cut its deficit to five, at 53-48 with 8:29 to play. Sophomore Britni Lonesome (Baltimore, MD/Polytechnic Institute) had four points during the run to help the hosts cut the deficit. McDaniel got five quick points to go back up by eight at 58-50 with 6:21 to play. Sloane then got the Blue Jays rolling with back-to-back treys. Trailing by three, Lonesome hit a three-pointer with 4:00 minutes to go to tie the game at 60-60. After Hopkins took a one-point lead, McDaniel went back on top 62-61 with 2:55 to play, courtesy of a Gogolinski lay-up. That would be the last lead the Green Terror would hold as the Blue Jays retook the lead on senior Andrea Dodrill's (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) lay-up. Sloane would hit two final free throws with eight seconds to go to seal the victory.

The first half of the game was a different story as McDaniel jumped out to an early 11-6 lead with 15:32 to play. Gogolinski knocked down three from the foul line during that run. Hopkins tied the game at 11-11 on a three-pointer by sophomore Anastasia Wynn (Reisterstown, MD/McDonogh). McDaniel went back on top 18-15 with 11:08 to go as Sally Grace nailed a trey. After a lay-up from freshman Lyndsay Burton (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) tied the game at 18-18, McDaniel went on a 10-2 run to take a 28-22 advantage with 5:49. Ali Moreland contributed four points during the spree. Hopkins responded with a 6-2 run to cut it to two at 28-26 with 4:57 to play. Dodrill knocked down four of the Blue Jays' six tallies. The Green Terror scored 14 of the final 21 points to take a 41-33 lead into the locker room. Whitney Snoops downed five for McDaniel to help them extend the lead.

Taking control of the ball played a factor in the game as McDaniel scored 14 first half points off nine Johns Hopkins turnovers. In the second half, McDaniel got no points off Hopkins turnovers while the Blue Jays tallied 11 points off 10 McDaniel turnovers.

The Blue Jays placed two players in double figures led by Dodrill on 16 points and 10 rebounds. It was the senior's fourth double-double of the year. Lonesome tallied 14 on the night while Burton led the Blue Jays with 11 rebounds and added eight points. Sloane had eight points, five assists, three steals and only one turnover in 32 minutes of work.

Gogolinksi and Robbin Gregg each scored 10 points on the night to lead the Green Terror. Gogolinski was also the leading rebounder for McDaniel with nine.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, January 26 when its hosts Centennial Conference leader, Dickinson College. Tip time in Goldfarb Gymnasium is set for 1 p.m.
