BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team defeated York, 75-66, in a non-conference contest at Goldfarb Gym. Junior Lyndsay Burton (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) drained 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. With the win, Hopkins improves to 3-1 while York falls to 3-3 on the season.
The Blue Jays took the lead, 10-9, with 12:53 left in the first half on a layup by Burton. The Blue Jays would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game. The lead would grow to 11 points (21-10) just under three minutes later with senior Anastasia Wynn (Reisterstown, MD/McDonogh) capping a 13-1 run with a 3-pointer. Wynn scored 11 points on the day.
The Blue Jays entered halftime with a 46-38 lead. Senior Leslie Markun (Mill Valley, CA/The Branson School) went two-for-two from 3-point range in the first half. Burton already clinched her double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the half.
The Blue Jays continued their solid play in the second half increasing their lead to 16 points on multiple occasions. Senior Britni Lonesome (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic) went 2-for-3 from behind the 3-point arc in the second stanza and 3-for-7 in the game. Lonesome would total 15 points off the bench for the Blue Jays.
Burton set her career-high rebounds record with 16. Senior Monica Mitchell (Reynoldsburg, OH/Reynoldsburg) tied her career rebounding-high with 12.
York's April Sparkman, a junior, led all scorers on the day with 21 points. Sophomore Khadija Mitchell scored 15 points for the Spartans.
The Blue Jays return to action on December 1 when they travel to Gettysburg for a Centennial Conference tilt at 7:00 pm.
