Box Score

TOWSON, MD - Towson used runs of 4-0 and 7-0 to take control early as the Tigers defeated visiting Johns Hopkins 16-7 on Sunday afternoon. Hopkins drops its second straight and slips to 4-6 on the season while the Tigers improve to 6-3. The loss snaps the Blue Jays eight-game win streak of the Tigers.

With the game tied at 1-1, Hopkins got back-to-back goals from sophomore Brianna Cronin (Arlington, MA/Arlington) and freshman Candace Rossi (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) to give Hopkins a 3-1 lead with 12:37 to play in the first half. Towson responded with a 5-0 run to end the half to take a 7-3 lead into the lockerroom.

Jacie Kendall got things going off a Tigers' clear as she took a pass from Julie Ondrako and scored low to make it a 3-2 game. Just 32 seconds later, Nikki Marcinik scored to tie the game at 3-3. Towson then scored four goals in a span of just 3:47, led by a pair from Britt Woodfield, to make it a 7-3 game at the half.

Towson needed just 19 seconds coming out of the half to push its lead to five as Marcinik scored off a pass from Woodfield. Hopkins finally got back on the board, ending a scoreless streak of 15:57, when freshman Colleen McCaffrey (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) scored on a free position goal.

The Tigers responded with yet another run as Kendall scored back-to-back goals in just 28 seconds to push Towson's lead to 10-4 with 25:03 left in the half and kick start a 4-0 run. Cassie Krause and McNamara followed with goals of their own as the Tigers extended their lead to 12-4.

Cronin cut the deficit to seven with her second of the afternoon off a feed from junior Kim Dubanksy (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) with 19:20 remaining. But Katie Cloud got that one back for the Tigers and the lead was back to eight at 13-5. McCaffrey answered for the Blue Jays, scoring her second of the day, but Towson won the ensuing draw and McNamara completed her hat trick to make it a 14-6 game. Jackie LaMonica then pushed the Tigers' lead to nine with 4:13 remaining.

Rossi scored on an alley dodge with 1:41 left on the clock for her second of the day and team-best 22nd of the day. But Towson wasn't done yet as the Tigers capitalized in transition with a goal from Woodfield.

Cronin, McCaffrey and Rossi combined for six of the Blue Jays seven goals, while four different Tigers had hat tricks. Sophomore Julianne Wisner (Parkton, MD/Notre Dame Prep) started and played 46:10 in the cage for the Blue Jays, finishing with seven saves. Junior Lizzie O'Ferrall (Baltimore, MD/Mount De Sales) replaced Wisner in the cage and played the remaining 13:50 without a save. Mary Teeters finished with 12 saves in the cage for Towson.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, April 1 as second-ranked Penn visits Homewood Field. The opening draw is slated for 7:00 pm.
