McDaniel Defeats Hopkins, 64-55

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team fell, 64-55, to McDaniel at Goldfarb Gym. Senior Ali Moreland of McDaniel tied her career-high point total with 24 points on the night. With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial Conference. The Green Terror improve to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

The story of the game was turnovers. The Blue Jays turned the ball over 25 times resulting in 28 points for the Green Terror. Hopkins only scored four points off of 14 McDaniel turnovers.

Hopkins held a 14-8 lead with 11:48 left in the first half after a made jumper by junior Nia Josiah (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson). McDaniel would finish out the half on the strength of a 25-6 run, to take a 33-20 lead at halftime. Moreland scored 15 of her 17 first half points during this 25-6 run.

McDaniel increased their lead to 19, at 52-35, with 9:16 left in the game on a made basket by Moreland. The Blue Jays would answer back and go on 15-1 run over the next five minutes. The run was capped by a 3-pointer by senior Britni Lonesome (Baltimore, Md/Baltimore Polytechnic). Hopkins would not get closer than five points, however, as McDaniel would shut the door thanks to a 3-pointer by freshman Katelyn Fischer. Fischer also had six steals in the game.

Moreland was 10-18 from the floor on her way to 24 points. Moreland set her career-high for steals with six. Senior Sally Grace drained 10 points in the game for McDaniel.

Lonesome led the Blue Jays with 11 points. Senior Katie Biggart (Darien, CT/Darien) and junior Lyndsay Burton (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) each had eight points in the game. Hopkins continued their strong rebounding by outrebounding McDaniel 40 to 34.

The Blue Jays will look to end their three-game losing skid when they return to action on Thursday, January 7 when they host Bryn Mawr. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
