BALTIMORE, MD - The 11th-ranked TCNJ Lions scored three first half goals en route to a 4-1 win over host Johns Hopkins Sunday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Homewood Field. The win snaps the Blue Jays five-game win streak as they slip to 6-5 overall. The Lions, meanwhile, improve to 10-3.
TCNJ got on the board just 12:11 into the contest when Leigh Mitchell sent a pass across the circle that Kathleen Notos one-timed inside the left post. The Lions then got a pair of goals in a 32-second span to push out to a three-goal lead. Camille Passucci converted a pass from Mitchell at 21:15 to make it 2-0 Lions and at 21:47, Notos scored an unassisted goal off her own rebound.
TCNJ extended its lead at 62:20 when Alex Okuniewicz tipped a pass from Jessica Falcone just inside the goal on the far post. Hopkins finally got on the board with just 38 seconds remaining as the Blue Jays capitalized in transition. Freshman Storm Kodde (Riverside, CT/Greenwich) played a through ball to senior Sarah Jacobs (Denver, CO/Kent Denver), who had gotten behind the defense. Jacobs banged home Kodde's pass to end the Lions' bid for their fifth shutout.
Junior Kim Stein (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park Memorial) finished with seven saves for the Blue Jays, while Shannon Syciarz had four for the Lions. TCNJ had the advantage in shots (18-10) and corners (14-6).
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 13 as Franklin & Marshall visits Homewood Field. The game wraps up a four-game homestand for the Blue Jays and is scheduled for a 4:30 pm start.
