Johns Hopkins Sweeps West Chester and TCNJ

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team swept visiting West Chester and TCNJ Saturday morning to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Blue Jays beat the Rams, 199.50-131.50, for their second straight win over the Division II power. Hopkins dominated in a 225-106 win over TCNJ for its first win over the Lions in three years.

Hopkins took second and fifth place in the 1650 Free to open the morning. Freshman Joe Acquaviva finished in second place with a time of 16:48.84 - just 0.34 seconds behind TCNJ's Timothy Rauch. Sophomore Alec Contag took fifth, clocking in at 17:28.27. The Blue Jays then picked up the first of their four wins on the day, taking the top spot in the 400 Medley Relay. Sophomore Nick Schmidt, junior Tim Nam and sophomores Carter Gisriel and Tyler Woods won the relay with a combined time of 3:31.94, nearly four seconds ahead of West Chester's second place relay team.

Freshman Anthony Lordi followed that with a win, his first of two individual wins on the day, in the 200 IM. He touched in 1:57.05 to take the win. Junior Stephen Niemiec placed third with a time of 2:00.55. In the 50 Free, Hopkins took second and third behind junior Eddy Zandee and Gisriel. Zandee placed second with a time of 22.11, followed by Gisriel in third in 22.31. Schmidt was the top Blue Jay in the 200 Fly, finishing in 1:58.82 for third place.

Lordi then picked up a win in the 100 Free as he and Woods combined to finish one-two. Lordi clocked in at 47.20 for the win, followed by Woods in 48.21. Niemiec earned his second podium finish of the day, placing second in the 200 Back with a time of 1:59.11. Hopkins then went two-three-four in the 200 Breast. Nam finished in 2:12.65 for second place, followed by freshman Alex Polyak (2:14.54) and senior Chris Razavi (2:16.50).

Hopkins wrapped up the meet with first, third and fourth place finishes in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Gisriel, Acquaviva, Woods and Lordi finished in 3:10.86 to win the relay by 2.64 seconds. Sophomore Jason Ho, freshman Theo Leclere and freshmen Will Kimball and Ben Tillar took third place with a total time of 3:15.24. And the team of Zandee, sophomore Dylan Coggin, junior Dan Raynard and Schmidt took fourth with a time of 3:16.91.

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, January 21 as the Blue Jays travel to the Eastern Shore to take on St. Mary's. The first event is slated to begin at 4:00 pm in St. Mary's Athletics and Recreation Center.
