SALISBURY, MD - Trevor Sharpe scored a pair of second-half goals to lead 18th-ranked Salisbury past Johns Hopkins, 2-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at SU Soccer Complex. The Blue Jays see their six-game unbeaten streak snapped and fall to 5-3-3 on the season while the Sea Gulls win their third straight to improve to 7-2-1.
After a scoreless first half that saw just three total shots between the two teams, Sharpe put the home team on the board in the 55th minute when he took a pass from Morgan Hunt, dribbled into the box and buried a shot for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. He would add an insurance goal in the 85th minute to put Salisbury up 2-0. From just outside the box, Matt Greene flicked a pass over a Blue Jay defender to Sharpe, who put it home.
Freshman goalie Nick Cerrone made a career-high six saves in his first loss of the season. For the Sea Gulls, Brandon Mumby turned away five shots for his second shutout of the season. The Sea Gulls held a 12-10 advantage in shots and corners were even at three apiece.
Hopkins returns to action and Centennial Conference play on Saturday, October 8 as the Blue Jays travel to Collegeville, PA to take on Ursinus. Game time is slated for 1:00 pm.
