COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The visiting Johns Hopkins field hockey team got a season-high 18 saves from senior Kim Stein, but an early Ursinus goal proved all the offense the Bears needed as 10th-ranked Ursinus topped Hopkins, 1-0, in Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays drop to 5-6 on the season and 2-3 in the conference as the Bears improve to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
Corinne Freeman put the home team on the board just 4:42 into the game on an assist from Catherine Bitterly. Though the Bears would continue to knock on the door, rattling off 31 shots and earning 15 corners, Stein's play would keep her team in the game. Hopkins generated plenty of offense of its own, getting 13 shots and six corners, but the Bears' Jill Lukens turned away all seven shots on cage to earn the shutout.
Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, October 11 as the Blue Jays travel to Ewing, NJ to take on sixth-ranked TCNJ. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
