COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The visiting Johns Hopkins men's soccer team got goals from three different scorers en route to a 3-0 win at Ursinus in Centennial Conference action Saturday. The Blue Jays get back in the win column and improve to 6-3-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference, while the Bears fall to 2-8-2 on the season and 1-3-1 in the conference.
Senior Sean Coleman put the Blue Jays on the board in just the 17th minute when he collected a rebound off a blocked shot and buried it for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Sam Glassman tacked on another one just before the half to give Hopkins a 2-0 lead at the break. He went in all alone on Bears' goalie Mike Alfieri and slotted home his second goal of the season in the 44th minute.
Hopkins wasted little time in scoring its third goal of the afternoon to start the second half. Freshman Rob Heuler gave the Blue Jays a three-goal cushion in the 49th minute. Coleman played the ball to junior Nick White, who laid it off to Heuler and he one-timed it past Alfieri for his first career goal.
The Blue Jays outshot the Bears, 17-4, and had three corners to none for the Bears. Freshman Nick Cerrone was not forced to make a save to earn his fifth career shutout. Alfieri finished with seven saves in the loss for the Bears. It is the 16th straight win in the series for the Blue Jays and third straight by shutout.
Hopkins returns to action and Homewood Field as the Blue Jays host the Red Devils of Dickinson College on Saturday, October 15. The Centennial Conference tilt is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
