FREDERICK, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball rolled to a three set sweep of non-conference opponent, Hood, Thursday evening to improve to 11-4 on the season while Hood fell to 5-6. Hopkins won by set scores of 25-17, 25-8 and 25-16.
The Blue Jays and Blazers battled point for point for most of the first set before Hopkins took control. With the score tied at 11 each, a kill from freshman Allison Chisenhall put the Blue Jays up for good. With the score 20-17 in favor of Hopkins, freshman Meagan Donohoe served five straight points, including an ace, to give the Blue Jays a 25-17 first set win.
Hopkins jumped out to a quick lead to open the second set with 11 straight points with freshman Mariel Metalios serving before Hood could earn a point. The Blue Jays used a five and three point run to close out the set, 25-8, and go up 2-0 over the Blazers.
The Blue Jays jumped all over the Blazers to open the third set with seven straight points behind the serving of freshman Taylor Jansen. The Blazers would pull to within five points with the score of 20-15, but could not overcome the deficit as the Blue Jays took the third set, 25-16.
Schwarz led the match with 10 kills while freshman Ellen Rogers right behind her with eight. Defensively, Metalios led all players with 15 digs and freshman Megan Schwarz was close behind with 13. Metalios handed out 35 assists over the three sets.
Johns Hopkins returns to the court when the Blue Jays travel to Swarthmore, PA for the first of four straight conference matches, starting with Swarthmore. The game time is set for 1 pm.
