CARLISLE, PA - Playing its inaugural game at Phyllis Joan Miller Memorial Soccer Complex, Dickinson scored in the 89th minute to top visiting Johns Hopkins, 2-1, Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays fall to 5-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in Centennial Conference play, while the Red Devils improve to 9-3-2 and 4-1-1 in the conference.
Shelden Waldenberger struck first after a scoreless first half, putting Dickinson on top in the 48th minute as he scored an unassisted tally. The Red Devils had a chance to extend their lead in the 62nd minute when they earned a penalty kick. But sophomore Nick Cerrone made the stop on Javier Mena's attempt to keep it a one-goal game. Hopkins then pulled even in the 70th minute as freshman Ian Heinrich scored his first goal of the season off an assist from classmate Josh Hong to knot the score at one apiece. But Derek Kachadurian would have the final say of the game. He scored on a helper from Mena in the 89th minute to put Dickson ahead and to avoid overtime.
Cerrone finished with four saves in the loss for the Blue Jays, while his counterpart Cody Hickok made six saves to earn the win. Dickinson outshot Hopkins, 18-11, and had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
