LEXINGTON, VA - Johns Hopkins got an early goal from senior Maggie Phillips and a pair of late strikes from junior Storm Kodde as the Blue Jays beat host Washington & Lee 3-0 in non-conference field hockey action Sunday. The Blue Jays win their second straight as they improve to 3-1 on the season while the Generals slip to 1-3.

Just 2:30 into the contest, senior Liane Tellier set up a corner for the Blue Jays, sending the ball to Philips, who shot it into the left side of the cage for her second of the season. Generals' goalie Kirsten Kyne then shut the door for more than 63 minutes, keeping the game at 1-0. Kodde finally broke through with an insurance goal for Hopkins at 65:57 when she deflected a shot from classmate Sarah Henderson over Kyne to make it 2-0. Ninety seconds later, Kodde scored from in close off a feed from sophomore Allison Thompson.

Senior Elizabeth Peijnenburg finished with two saves to earn the shutout, her first of the season. Kyne finished with 18 saves, while there was also a team save for the Generals. Hopkins had a significant edge in shots (31-8) and corners (13-4) in winning its ninth straight in the series with Washington & Lee.

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, September 14 as the Blue Jays open Centennial Conference play against Washington College. Game time at Homewood Field is set for 6:00 pm.
