LANDOVER, MD - Junior Emily Swenson crushed the Centennial Conference record in the shot put to guide the Johns Hopkins women's track and field team to a strong performance at the Terrapin Invitational Saturday.
A week removed from breaking the conference record with a toss of 12.62m, Swenson smashed her own record with a mark of 12.96m to earn sixth place overall. In fact, the junior broke her previous record with four separate throws on the day. Swenson's throw ranks 12th among Division III athletes this season.
Senior Annie Monagle also turned in an impressive day on the track, earning first place in the 800 meter run and second in the mile run. Monagle ran a personal record 5:02.18 in the mile run, in addition to 2:16.04 in the 800. She currently ranks second in the nation in the mile and fourth in the 800 among Division III athletes.
In the 5,000 meter run, Grace Hancock clocked a time of 18:25.51 - a 36 second personal record - and Abby Flock was just ahead in 18:25.44.
In the sprint events, freshmen Brynn Parsons and Juliana Wittmann raced well in the 200 meters and 300 meters, respectively. Parson's time of 27.37 ranks eighth on the Hopkins all-time performance list, while Wittmann ran 43.84 for seventh place.
Hopkins is scheduled to return to the track next weekend at the Penn State National Open in State College, PA. Additionally, a portion of the team will compete at the Thompson Invitational in Newark, DE.
