BALTIMORE, MD -- For nearly 100 years, Johns Hopkins teams have represented the University under the nickname "Blue Jays." With more than 50 national championships, 200 conference titles and nearly 1,400 All-America citations, our Blue Jays have certainly excelled at the highest level.
In recent years, the ever-present Blue Jay mascot has been visible at home and away athletic events, while also making numerous appearances to support other departments, including alumni relations, development, student affairs and admissions.
Now, through a joint initiative of the Department of Athletics and the Office of the Dean of Student Life, we are looking to name the Blue Jay mascot. A common question in recent years has been "what's the mascot's name?" To that, there's never been an appropriate response.
Students, alumni and Johns Hopkins fans can enter their suggestion here. There will also be a table at the Johns Hopkins-Dickinson football game on Friday, October 18 (7 pm • Homewood Field) for fans to submit a nomination.
Suggestions will be taken until noon on October 25. From the nominations, a list of finalists (5-10) will be selected by a panel of administrators. Voting will then be open to students, alummi and fans from October 28-31 (a link to vote online will be distributed) with the announcement of the official name coming shortly after voting ends.
