BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Shannon Parker assisted on both of Johns Hopkins goals as the Blue Jays beat the visiting McDaniel Green Terror, 2-0, in Centennial Conference action Tuesday night. The Blue Jays improve to 7-8 overall and 5-4 in the conference, while the Green Terror slip to 8-7 overall and 3-5 in the Centennial.
Lara Haab nearly put McDaniel on the board just 9:14 into the game following a Green Terror corner. Her shot eluded sophomore goalie Zoey Atabek, but senior Sarah Henderson was there to clear the ball out of danger. Junior Alexa Lantiere broke the scoreless tie at the 33:03-mark in the first half as Hopkins capitalized on a corner. Off the corner, sophomore Elena Gresick who passed down to Parker, who dribbled towards the end line before hitting the ball across the mouth of the cage. Lantiere, who was open in the middle, redirected Parker's pass in to the cage to make it 1-0 Hopkins.
Freshman Liz Stillman gave the Blue Jays an insurance goal at 61:59 with her second of the season. Stillman's goal was a mirror image of Lantiere's in the first half. Parker again took a pass from Gresick, dribbled in and centered the ball, where Stillman tipped it past Terror goalie Caila White. Sarah Meszler had a great chance to get McDaniel on the board at 62:45 but Atabek made a nifty stick save to preserve the shutout.
Atabek finished with 10 saves to earn her third shutout of the season while White made four save in the loss. Each team took 12 shots, while Hopkins had nine corners to seven for McDaniel.
Hopkins wraps up Centennial Conference play on Saturday, October 26 as the Blue Jays host the Gettysburg Bullets. Game time is set for 1:00 pm and Hopkins will honor its five seniors prior to the game.
