BALTIMORE, MD - Ninth-ranked Mary Washington scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 tie at the half and beat host Johns Hopkins, 3-1, in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays fall to 5-6 overall while the Eagles remain unbeaten at 12-0.

The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead at 13:24 capitalizing on a corner. Christine Loehr took the corner for Mary Washington, sending the ball to the Carlee Budd on the near side. She collected the pass on the edge of the circle and blasted a shot inside the far post. Hopkins answered just over four minutes later, as the home team took advantage of a corner. Sophomore Leslie MacManus sent the ball out to classmate Kiana Duncan, who ripped a hard shot from the top of the circle. Senior Maddie Fryer, open near the mouth of the cage, redirected Duncan's blast for her sixth of the season.

Mary Washington didn't waste much time in the second half in retaking the lead. Jenna Steele took a shot off a Loehr corner and Haley Kane redirected it at the right post to stake the Eagles to a 2-1 lead just 1:26 into the second. Mary Washington added to its lead at 54:15 in what turned out to be the final score of the game. Steele fired a shot from the right side of the cage and sophomore goalie Zoey Atabek blocked it with her stick. Nicole Guinn bounced on the rebound however and put it home.

Atabek finished with 12 saves while the Eagles' Emily Badis turned aside four shots. Badis also got a defensive save from Kathleen Namey.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 12 as the Blue Jays travel to Haverford to take on the Fords. The Centennial Conference tilt is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
