EWING, NJ - Host and ninth-ranked TCNJ jumped out to a 3-0 lead and went on to defeat Johns Hopkins, 4-2, in non-conference field hockey action Friday night. The Blue Jays, who did not qualify for the Centennial Conference Tournament, finish their season at 7-10. The Lions improve to 15-3 heading as they wrap up their regular season.
Erin Waller put the Lions on the board early, scoring off a penalty corner just 7:18 into the game. Jaclyn Douglas popped in a rebound at 20:34 to push the lead to two before Erin Healy converted a penalty stroke at 26:36. Just 39 seconds later, freshman Austin Davis scored her first career goal off an assist from senior Allison Thompson to make it a 3-1 game at the half.
Lindsey Hatch pushed the Lions' lead back to three less than three minutes into the second half with an unassisted tally. Freshman Lindsey Adams got one back for the Blue Jays at 53:17 with her second goal of the season to cut the deficit in half. But that's as close as Hopkins could get.
Sophomore Zoey Atabek finished with 11 saves in the loss, while getting a defensive save from classmate Elena Gresick. She now holds the school's career mark with 15 defensive saves and just two seasons under her belt. Amanda Krause earned the win while making five saves and also got a defensive save from Victoria Martin.
