SHENANDOAH, TX - The Johns Hopkins women's swimming team picked up 81.5 points, two medals and two school records on the final day of the 2013 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship en route to a fifth-place finish. The Blue Jays totaled a program-record 290 points over the course of the four-day championship to match. The fifth-place finish matches a program best and is the Blue Jays best finish since 2002. In all, Hopkins won one NCAA relay title, collected eight medals and broke 11 school records.
Emory took home its fourth straight NCAA Championship with 619 total points. Kenyon took second place (483 points), followed by Denison (363 points) and Williams (304 points) to round out the top four.
Hopkins opened the night with a pair of swimmers in the championship final of the 100 Free. Sophomore Ana Bogdanovski took home her second individual medal of the championship with a third-place finish. She touched in 50.45 to break her own school record by 0.06 seconds. It is Hopkins' first-ever medal in the 100 Free. Junior Sarah Rinsma finished in a tie for sixth place as she clocked in with a career-best time of 50.89. Both swimmers earned First Team All-America honors with their finishes.
The Blue Jays then placed a pair of swimmers in the finals of the 200 Back. Freshman Sean McGrath placed sixth in the consolation final, to finish 14th overall, with a time of 2:02.84 to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors. Her prelim time of 2:02.78 was a career best. Junior Taylor Kitayama then finished in fourth in the championship final as she touched in 1:59.48. It is the second fastest time in program history and earned her First Team All-America honors.
Hopkins closed out the night with silver in the 400 Free Relay. Rinsma, Kitayama, junior Kylie Ternes and Bogdanovski combined for a school-record 3:22.69. The quartet earned First Team All-America honors with their finish. It is the highest-ever finish by the Blue Jays in the event and their first medal in the 400 Free Relay since 2002 (bronze).
Bogdanovski and Kitayama each earned All-America honors seven times, the maximum at the championship. This is the second time in Kitayama's career that she has accomplished the feat and she is just the third swimmer in program history do so at multiple championships. Bogdanovski becomes the eighth swimmer in school history to garner seven All-America honors at one championship.
