BALTIMORE, MD - Visiting and 13th-ranked Princeton defeated Johns Hopkins, 15-10, in both teams' CWPA Southern Division Opener Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays suffer just their second game of the season as they slip to 7-2 overall, while the Tigers remain unbeaten at 4-0.
Princeton pushed out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter and then led 6-3 just 90 seconds into the second before Hopkins scored three straight to tie the match. Freshman Giovanni Cragnotti scored to cu the deficit to two at 3:37 on a man-up. Junior Wes Hopkins then blew home back-to-back man-up goals just 33 seconds apart and the scored was knotted at six apiece. Princeton's Kayj Shannon sandwiched a pair of goals around a strike from sophomore Blake Range and the Tigers led 9-7 at the half.
Junior Johnny Beal scored the first two goals of the third period to pull the Blue Jays even with the visitors. However, Princeton would score the next four unanswered to lead 13-9 heading into the final quarter. Princeton would outscore Hopkins, 2-1, in the final eight minutes to take the win.
Beal led the Blue Jays with four goals, while Hopkins scored three and dished out a pair of assists and senior Stephen Kingery tallied three assists. Sophomore Erik Henrikson made six saves in the loss.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, September 22 as the Blue Jays host the 18th-ranked Bucknell Bison and the Navy Midshipmen. Hopkins will face Bucknell at 12 pm, followed by a 4 pm matchup with Navy.
