Box Score

WASHINGTON, DC - Sophomore Caitlin Callihan had a career game, posting 24 kills and nine digs, but it was not enough as Hopkins fell to Gallaudet 3-2 (26-24, 28-26, 26-24, 25-17, 15-12) Thursday evening. Hopkins rallied after falling behind 0-2 in the first pair of sets to even the match at 2-2. But the Jays could not complete the comeback, as Gallaudet took the decisive fifth set 15-12.

With the game on the line in the third set, Gallaudet and Hopkins were back and forth with neither team able to pull ahead. Tied 24-24, the Blue Jays went ahead on a kill from Ali Cox, and benefited from a Bison attack error to win the game 26-24. Hopkins carried the momentum over to the fourth set, as Kim Bronson and Mariel Metalios combined to serve nine JHU points and help the Jays even the match at two sets piece.

Tied 4-4 in the final set, Gallaudet's Molly Perkins served four straight points to help the Bison take control. Hopkins fought back, twice cutting the lead to two points (9-11, 12-14), but Gallaudet's Gluletta Maucere converted the final kill and the Bison earned the victory.

Hopkins dropped its first match to Gallaudet since 2004 in the loss, and fall to 6-6 on the season. Tonight's loss is the first time this season Hopkins has dropped a match to a team (at some point) not ranked in the AVCA Top-25. The Blue Jays will be back on the court this Saturday at Goldfarb Gym in a conference clash with an 11-3 Swarthmore squad.
