SWARTHMORE, PA - Visiting Johns Hopkins got two goals apiece from sophomore Kiana Duncan and senior Maddie Fryer as the Blue Jays beat the Swarthmore Garnet in Centennial Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference while the Garnet fall to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the CC.

Duncan scored the game's first two goals just 76 seconds apart and the Blue Jays had a 2-0 lead before the game was 19 minutes old. Her first goal of the game came at 16:56 when she put home her own rebound after her original shot was blocked. Just over a minute later, Duncan collected a pass from classmate Elena Gresick and fired a shot past Gabby Capone at 18:12. Fryer pushed Hopkins' lead to three at 27:06 when she scored from the center of the circle off a Natalie Vicas assist.

Freshman Lindsey Adams opened the second-half scoring at 42:27 with a goal off a rebound. Less than nine minutes later, Swarthmore finally broke through the Hopkins defense for its first goal of the game. Julia Thomas collected a rebound and passed to Erin Gluck, who slipped a shot past sophomore Zoey Atabek to make it a 4-1 game. Fryer answered for the Blue Jays with her second of the game off a Duncan helper at 63:53 to push the lead back to four. That ignited a late flurry that saw three goals scored in the final 6:02.

Just over two minutes after Fryer's second goal, Gluck scored her second of the day off another Thomas assist and it was 5-2 Hopkins. Sophomore Miceile Barrett wrapped up the scoring at 67:38 with her first of the season. She took a pass from classmate Leslie MacManus on the right side of the circle and scored from close range.

Atabek finished with nine saves to earn the win, while Cappone made nine saves in 61 minutes of action. She was replaced by Ainsley Parrish, who made a pair of saves in the game's final nine minutes. Hopkins outshot Swarthmore, 27-15, and had a 13-11 advantage in corners.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 2 as the Blue Jays host the fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats. Game time at Homewood Field for the Centennial Conference match-up is set for 7:00 pm.
