BALTIMORE, MD - Visiting Denison twice rallied from one-goal deficits in the second half to force overtime and eventually a shootout as the Big Red edged the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, 4-3, on Saturday morning at Homewood Field. The Jays slip to 1-1 on the season while the Big Red remains unbeaten at 2-0.

Denison took an early 1-0 lead on Lizzy Pellicane's goal at the 13:03 mark in the first half. Molly Chapman hit a long ball into the circle from about 20 yards out and sophomore Zoey Atabek kicked the ball away. Pellicane collected the rebound however and lifted it over Atabek's head for the score. The Blue Jays didn't take long to answer though as they tied the game less than four minutes later. Sophomore Leslie MacManus struck a Hopkins corner, sending the ball to classmate Elena Gresick at the top of the circle. Gresick then blasted a shot past Laura Campbell to knot the score at one goal apiece.

Hopkins then took the lead just over five minutes into the second half. Sophomore Kiana Duncan sent a long ball into the circle, and junior Alexa Lantiere redirected the pass past Campbell. The lead didn't last long, just four minutes and 22 seconds in fact, thanks to the first of two goals from Alex B. Berman. From just inside the circle, Pellicane hit a hard shot and Berman redirected it to tie the game at two. Just over two minutes later, Hopkins had retaken the lead at 3-2. Freshman Lindsey Adams played a nice ball into the circle, where senior Maddie Fryer collected the pass and scored her first of the season. The Big Red weren't done yet and it was Berman again, redirecting a shot from Katie McMahon that tied the game with just 8:17 to play in the game.

Neither team was able to find the cage over the remainder of regulation and 30 minutes of overtime, forcing a stroke-off. The Big Red were able to convert three of their shots to one for the Blue Jays giving the visitors the win.

Atabke was outstanding in the goal, making a career-best 16 saves while Grescik and senior Sarah Henderson each made a defensive save. Campbell finished with eight saves in the win, while also getting defensive saves from Chapman and Karla Dixon.

Hopkins is back in action on Sunday, September 8 against Eastern Mennonite. Game time at Homewood Field is set for 2:00 pm.
