WESTMINSTER, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's volleyball team outlasted host McDaniel on Wednesday night in a five set match. The Jays rebounded strong after being down 2-1 in the match.
The Blue Jays lost the first set, 25-20, but rebounded nicely in the second, winning 25-19. The third set saw the Jays squander a lead and eventually fall in a highly contested 25-23 set.
The fourth set saw the Jays come out strong and capture the set, 25-19. The fifth set was back-and-forth before the Jays pulled away and won 15-11.
The Jays were led by freshman middle hitter Mereze Visagie, who finished the match with 12 kills on a .321 hitting percentage and added three block assists. Fellow freshmen Erica Johnston and Liz Wuerstle each tallied double digit kills as well.
Defensively Anne Cohen, Johnston and Kristi Rhead registered 23, 17 and 12 digs respectively.
The Blue Jays are next in action Saturday for the regular season finale as they host Gettysburg College. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
