Sixth-Ranked Franklin & Marshall Bests Johns Hopkins

LANCASTER, PA - Sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall scored three goals in the game's first 16 minutes en route to a 6-1 win over visiting Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference field hockey action Wednesday. The Blue Jays fall to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Diplomats improve to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the CC.

Sydney Cole put the Diplomats on the board just 10:25 into the game when she collected a loose ball in the circle and scored on the left side of the cage. Just 59 seconds later, Tamara Mills scored on a breakaway to push the lead to two. Cole found the cage for the second time on the night at the 15:52-mark, putting home a rebound after junior Zoey Atabek made the initial save.

Franklin & Marshall came out firing to start the second half, scoring three goals in the first four minutes of the half. Maria Guarisco scored back-to-back goals just 59 seconds apart on reverse shots. Lauren Eastman capped the three-goal spurt at the 39:05-mark when she banged home a cross from Cole into the left side of the net. Freshman Morgan Pothast ended the Dips' shutout bid at 52:50 with her third of the season. Junior Kiana Duncan took a hard shot and Pothast deflected into the top left of the goal.

Atabek finished with 12 saves in the loss while Allie Morey made one save in the win for the Diplomats. Franklin & Marshall outshot Hopkins, 27-5, and had eight corners to six for JHU.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 11 as the Blue Jays host the Ursinus Bears. Game time for the Centennial Conference tilt is slated for 1:00 pm.
