READING, PA - Senior
Kotaro Mitsuhashi tallied a career-best five points to lead the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over host Albright Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays pick up their third straight win as they improve to 3-0-1 on the season. The Lions suffer their first loss of the season and slip to 2-1-1.
The Blue Jays didn't take long to get on the scoreboard as they scored just 66 seconds in. Mitsuhashi struck a corner for Hopkins and senior co-captain Rob Heuler headed it home for his first goal of the season. Mitsuhashi then scored the first of his two goals on the afternoon in the 19th minute, pushing Hopkins lead to two.
The lead stayed at two for nearly 39 minutes before Hopkins struck again. This time it was Heuler setting up his classmate as he slipped a pass to Mitsuhashi, who then beat Austin Aldinger in the 58th minute to stake Hopkins to a 3-0 lead. Just four minutes later, the Blue Jays scored again and it was another senior, Mark Spencer, who scored his first goal of the season in the 62nd minute.
Sophomore Matt Paris stopped all five shots he faced in the goal to earn his second shutout of the season. Aldinger finished with three saves in the loss meanwhile. Hopkins outshot Albright, 20-10, while corners were even at three apiece.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 10 as the Blue Jays host the Frostburg State Bobcats. The non-conference game is slated to start at 7:00 pm at Homewood Field.
