• CMS opened the second with back-to-back goals to push out to a 6-3 lead. But Hopkins responded with three goals in just 50 seconds to tie the game with 1:22 to play in the half. Freshman Giorgio Cico got the run going and senior Garrett Davidson and sophomore Jono Gillette followed with goals.
• The Stags answered with a three-goal run of their own to open the third quarter and take a 9-6 lead. The teams then traded goals and CMS led 10-7 heading into the fourth.
• Hopkins got goals from Cico and freshman Andreas Katsis to pull within one of CMS with 6:24 still to play. But the Blue Jays could get no closer and the Stags tacked on an insurance goal with 1:12 to play.
How it Happened • MIT (DIII Third-Place Match)
• Just 55 seconds into the contest, the teams were tied at 1-1, setting the table for a high-scoring affair. And true to form, it was 5-5 at the end of the first quarter.
• MIT retook the lead early in the second, but a pair of Hopkins goals swung the lead back in the Blue Jays' favor. The teams then traded goals over the final 1:45 of the period and Hopkins took a 9-8 lead into the half.
• The Engineers struck first in the third quarter, tying the game for the eighth time. But a goal from senior co-captain Langdon Froomer sparked a four-goal Blue Jay run that saw them push out to a 13-9 lead after three.
• Once again the teams traded goals throughout the final period as neither team could string together consecutive goals. But it turned out the four-goal deficit to start the quarter was too much to overcome for the Engineers.
