NEWVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's cross country team finished in fourth place at the 2015 NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday. Ryan Schwartz (25:36) paced the Blue Jays with a sixth-place finish to earn a spot in next weekend's NCAA Championship.
The Blue Jays finished with 183 points at the event. Haverford took home the team title with 67 points and was followed by Elizabethtown (93 points) and Carnegie Mellon (98 points). Charlie Maquardt of Haverford won the individual crown, completing the 8,000m course in 25:14.
Haverford and Elizabethtown earn an automatic qualification to next weekend's national tournament, while the Jays will look for their name when the at-large selections are announced Sunday afternoon.
Other top-50 finishers for the Blue Jays were Louis Levine (36th place, 26:30), Ollie Hickson (45th place, 26:31), Brandon Fielder (46th place, 26:34) and Akshay Alaghatta (50th place, 26:39).
Schwartz will continue his season next weekend at the NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The rest of Blue Jays will await the selection committee's announcement tomorrow.
