BALTIMORE, MD - Sixth-ranked Boston College outscored host and 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins, 5-0, in the second half en route to a 9-5 win Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays suffer their first loss of the season as their record falls to 1-1 while the Eagles open the season with a win for the 13th time in their history.

Coming out of the half trailing 5-4, the Eagles got two quick goals to retake the lead with 24:30 to play in the game. Covie Stanwick got BC going when she dodged from behind the goal, hitched and then shot low on sophomore Caroline Federico to knot the score at the 26:29-mark. Just two minutes later, Caroline Margolis scored on a similar play to push the visitors on top.

BC punched in three goals around the midway point of the half, turning a one-goal game into a four-goal game in a six-minute span. Margolis got her second straight goal with 16:30 to play, when she took advantage of a Stanwick pick behind the goal to go in on Federico and extend the Eagles' lead to two. The lead became three when Kate Rich found Tess Chandler on the doorstep for a quick-stick shot. Lauren Frankenfield scored what proved to be the final score of the game with 10:34 to play. Mary Kate O'Neill found Frankenfield open in the middle of the fan, she caught the pass high and went low to account for the 9-5 final.

The Eagles took an early 2-0 lead on the Blue Jays with goals from Mikaela Rix and Margolis before the game was five minutes old. Rix put BC on the board first as she cut across the top of the fan and then down the right alley before sneaking a shot just under the crossbar. Margolis then converted a free position shot at the 25:26-mark. Hopkins answered less than a minute later when junior Kristen Cannon connected with sophomore Alexis Maffucci. Cannon drew a foul and on the restart, she went to the cage, where she drew a double team. Cannon then passed to Maffucci, who cut across the crease and beat Zoe Ochoa five-hole for her third of the season.

Rix got her second of the afternoon with 23:06 to play as Boston College scored in transition after a Hopkins' turnover on the other end. Sarah Mannelly then pushed the Eagles' lead to three when she cut back left on her defender and beat senior KC Emerson with a bounce shot at 17:21. Just two minutes later, junior Dene' DiMartino made it a two-goal game as she cashed in on a free position shot.

Freshman Emily Kenul then cut the deficit to just one at the 10:30 mark with a great individual effort. On an Eagle clear attempt, she checked the ball away from Kaileen Hart, scooped up the ground ball and went in alone on Ochoa. Fading to her left and with a defender on her, she snuck a shot inside the left post for her second career goal. In the closing minutes of the half, the Blue Jays went from trailing to leading in a span of 78 seconds. DiMartino knotted the score with 2:46 to go when she dodged hard across the top of the fan and then blew a sidearm shot past Ochoa from seven yards out. Sophomore Haley Schweizer capped the four-goal run with her second goal of the season with 1:28 on the clock. Kenul beat her defender and went hard towards the fan, where she drew a slide and then passed to Schweizer on her right. Schweizer cradled and then ripped a low shot from the top of the fan to give Hopkins a 5-4 lead.

DiMartino led the Blue Jays with two goals while Kenul had a goal and an assist. Junior Kirsti Paavola had a game-high three draw controls while classmate Josie George had four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Emerson finished with four saves while Federico had three for the Blue Jays. Margolis led the Eagles with a hat trick and Rix (2g) and Mannelly (1g, 1a) each had two points. Ochoa made six saves in the win for BC.

Hopkins is back in action on Wednesday, February 18 as the Blue Jays host the George Washington Colonials. Opening draw for the mid-week contest is slated for 4:00 pm.
