? The Short Story: The 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins water polo team got hat tricks from senior Blake Range, junior Matt Fraser and freshman Giorgio Cico en route to a 16-8 win over George Washington Sunday morning. The Blue Jays improve to 5-1 with the win while the Colonials slip to 2-5.
How it Happened
? George Washington jumped out to a two-goal lead and led 4-3 at the first quarter break, thanks to a five-meter goal with six seconds to go in the stanza.
? Hopkins roared back with a 4-1 showing in the second quarter to go up 7-5 at the half. Freshman Giorgio Cico scored the first two goals of the quarter to put the Blue Jays ahead, and they would not trail for the remainder of the match. This time it was Hopkins that would get a five-meter goal, from Cico to complete his hat trick, at the end of the quarter.
? The Blue Jays picked up right where they left off, scoring the first four goals of the third quarter to push out to an 11-5 lead. Junior Matt Fraser got the run going as the Blue Jays more than doubled their lead in just 78 seconds.
? Leading 13-7 at the start of the fourth, senior Garrett Davidson scored to double the score with just 19 seconds gone. GW answered on the next possession, but Hopkins would get the final two goals of the match to account for the 16-8 final.
