? The Short Story: The 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins water polo team finally played a match at home in 2015, hosting 15th-ranked Bucknell and 11th-ranked Princeton in CWPA action Saturday. The Blue Jays opened the day with 13-12 win over the Bison in the afternoon and then suffered a tough 17-15 double overtime loss to the Tigers in the nightcap.
How it Happened ? Bucknell
? With the game tied at one three minutes into the game, Hopkins got back-to-back goals from freshman Giorgio Cico and senior Kevin Yee just 34 seconds apart to go up 3-1. Bucknell would pull within one at the end of the first.
? The Bison got the first two goals of the second quarter to go up 4-3 with 17 seconds to play. But Nate Hunter was given a red card and ejected at the end of the half. Hopkins was awarded a five-meter shot, which Cico converted to make it a 4-4 game at the half.
? With a man-up to start the third quarter, the Blue Jays cashed in with a goal from senior Langdon Froomer but the Bison quickly answered to tie the game. The teams went back-and-forth throughout the period and Hopkins led 10-9 going into the fourth.
? Bucknell got goals from Jeff Hagen and Tommy Stupp to take an 11-10 lead with 6:22 to go. It was short-lived however as a Matt Fraser goal sparked a three-goal Hopkins' run that saw the Jays go up 13-11 with under a minute to play. Bucknell pulled within one with a five-meter goal 10 seconds later, but that would do it.
How it Happened ? Princeton
? The teams traded goals in the opening quarter and Hopkins led 3-2 on a Jono Gillette goal heading into the second.
? The Blue Jays picked up where they left off with goals from freshman Giorgio Cico and senior Langdon Froomer to take a 5-2 lead with 5:05 to go in the second. Princeton pulled within one, but Cico answered with back-to-back goals in a 28-second span to stake Hopkins to a 7-4 lead. The Tigers would get one back before the half, cutting the deficit to two.
? The lead see-sawed up and down in the third quarter until Princeton pulled even with 2:19 to play on a goal from Ryan Wilson. Hopkins responded with goals from Gillette and Cico and the Blue Jays led 12-10 at the end of the third.
? The teams continued to go back-and-forth until late in the quarter when Princeton got a pair of goals to go up 14-13 with 1:17 to play. Hopkins wasn't done though and junior Giovanni Cragnotti fired home the tying goal with just two ticks on the clock to force overtime.
? Both teams scored in the first overtime to force a second extra period. The Tigers outscored the Jays, 2-0, in the second overtime to get the win.
What it Means
? Johns Hopkins is now 23-40 all-time against Bucknell, including 8-4 at home.
? Hopkins is 5-45 against Princeton, with a 4-11 mark at home.
? This was the first overtime game between the Blue Jays and the Tigers since 2010 and just the third in series history.

? Freshman Giorgio Cico led the Blue Jays with four goals and two ejections drawn versus the Bison. Junior Matt Fraser scored a pair of goals and handed out a team-high four assists to go with two ejections drawn and two blocks. Senior Langdon Froomer totaled four points (2g, 2a).
? Senior Erik Henrikson made six saves and a had steal two quarters, while sophomore John Wilson stopped four shots and had a steal.

? Freshman Giorgio Cico once again led Hopkins with a career-high six goals. Senior Langdon Froomer notched a hat trick while also dishing four helpers and getting three steals.
? Senior Garrett Davidson had three steals and a block while sophomore Jono Gillette tallied four points (2g, 2a).
? Senior Erik Henrikson posted seven saves in two quarters plus one overtime period. Sophomore John Wilson made four saves, including one on a five-meter, to go with one steal and one assist.
