How it Happened
? The teams traded goals through the opening seven minutes and GW led 3-2. Freshman Finn Banks scored with 54 ticks remaining in the first to tie the game and spark a four-goal run. That run bridged the quarter break and saw the Blue Jays go up 6-3. Senior Matt Fraser scored the last goal of the opening quarter and then opened the second-quarter scoring. Sophomore Giorgio Cico capped the run with a six-on-five goal at 6:37.
? The Colonials answered with three straight goals to tie the game at 6-6 with three minutes remaining. Cico and classmate Josh Kurtz scored back-to-back goals to stake Hopkins to an 8-6 lead at the half. The Blue Jays would not relinquish that lead.
? GW's Duke Becker opened the third-quarter scoring to make it 8-7. Hopkins came right back with four unanswered goals to push out to a 12-7 lead. Senior Giovanni Cragnotti punctuated the run with a man-up goal at 3:49 in the third. Brett Else snapped the Blue Jays' run with a goal at the 3:00-mark but junior Connor Johnson got that one back for the Jays and it was 13-8 at the end of the third.
? Jordon Blosser scored for the Colonials to pull the visitors within four. But once again Hopkins answered. Fraser and Cico sandwiched goals around a strike Bogdan Petkovic and the Jays took the 15-10 win.
