Senior Matt Billups blocked eight shots to break the school's single-game and season records.

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team ended its season with a win, racing past host Washington College, 82-65, on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays (13-12, 10-8 CC) were eliminated from the playoffs with Gettysburg's win today over McDaniel. The Shoremen end their season at 3-22 overall and 1-17 in the conference. Senior Matt Billups broke both the school single-game and single season record for blocks with eight and 67, respectively.

Washington College took an early three-point lead on a James Drury layup at the 16:07-mark. Hopkins answered with 9-1 run, punctuated by a dunk by junior Ryan Curran, to take a 13-8 lead at 13:10. The Shoremen responded with six unanswered points and took a 14-13 lead on a Drury free throw. Sophomore Kyle Doran grabbed the lead back for the Blue Jays with a fast-break layup but Brandon Berry answered on the other end for the home team.

The lead changed hands again, for the last time as it turned out, with a Niko Kotoulas layup that sparked a 12-4 Hopkins' run that gave the visitors a 27-20 lead with 6:13 to play in the half. Senior Gene Williams capped the run with back-to-back threes, two of his six on the day. Washington College came back, pulling within two, 35-33, at the 1:03-mark. But back-to-back triples by Williams and junior Max McKee staked JHU to a 41-33 lead at the half.

The Blue Jays picked right up where they left off, scoring the first seven points of the second, to push out to a 48-33 lead. The Shoremen kept fighting and put together an 11-4 run to make it an eight-point game with 12:51 to go. Five different players scored for WC during the run, which was topped with a Tas Dixon bucket from downtown. Hopkins wasn't letting this one slip away though, using a 16-4 run to extend its lead to 20 by the 6:25-mark. McKee fueled the run with nine straight points for the Blue Jays. That did it for the Shoremen as they got no closer than 16 in the final six minutes.

Williams led all scorers with 24 points, going 6-of-11 from downtown, while also handing out a career-best seven assists. In addition to his record-breaking eight blocks, Billups finished with his third career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. His 67 blocks on the season break Ralph Horne's mark of 65 which had stood since 1986. Senior Sam Gordon also posted a double-double, with 13 points and 10 boards, to go with four assists. McKee punched up a career-high 13 points while grabbing six boards. Pat Morgan led the Shoremen with 18 points, while Dixon scored 12 and Drury added 10. The Blue Jays shot 52.4 percent from the field while holding the Shoremen to just 36.5.
