Box Score Feb. 24, 2016

Box Score

Junior Maddie Bodden had a career high three caused turnovers versus Loyola.

The Basics
• Score: #19 Loyola-8, #16 Johns Hopkins-7 (2OT)
• Records: JHU (3-1), LU (1-2)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: Sabrina Tabasso scored the game-winning goal with 56.6 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lead visiting Loyola to an 8-7 win over the 16th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team Wednesday night. The Blue Jays suffer their first loss of the season while the Greyhounds earn their first win.

How it Happened
• Loyola took an early 1-0 lead as Cami Whiteford went top-shelf 5:21 into the game. Junior Haley Schweizer answered for Hopkins when she blew a shot past Molly Wolf from seven yards out at the 22:21-mark.
• Maddy Blakeman staked the Greyhounds to a 3-1 lead, scoring back-to-back goals less than a minute apart midway through the half. Blakeman scored from a tight angle, picking the lower right corner at 17:48. She then dodged right, spun back to her left and then shot to the lower left corner.
• The Blue Jays responded with four straight goals, three of which came in a 57-second span. Senior Jenna Reifler got things going when she picked up a loose ball in the high slot and fired a side-arm shot past Wolf at 12:38. Just 15 seconds later, Schweizer scored off a give-and-go with sophomore Shannon Fitzgerald. Freshman Miranda Ibello then gave Hopkins its first lead of the game when she scored from a goal line extended left off a feed from senior Dene' DiMartino. Sophomore Emily Kenul completed the run when she scored in transition on a high-to-low shot with 7:40 to play in the half.
• Whiteford had the final say of the half however, bookending the scoring, as she beat junior Caroline Federico from the left alley with just 6.4 seconds on the clock to make it 5-4. • Less than two minutes into the second half, play was suspended due to lightning – a delay that lasted two hours and five minutes.
• Once play resumed, Hopkins got goals from DiMartino and Schweizer to push its lead to 7-4 with 18:57 to play. DiMartino doubled the Blue Jays' lead with a free position goal, extending her goal-scoring streak to 30 games. Four minutes later, Schweizer spun on her defender and scored on a rocket from the top of the fan for her third of the night.
• The Greyhounds came back by scoring the final three goals of regulation, tying the game with 7:14 to play. Frankie Kamely scored on a low shot off the dodge, ending a scoreless drought of 14:19. Tabasso and Hannah Powers then scored back-to-back goals just 63-seconds apart to even the score. Hopkins had a chance to win it as time expired when Kenul had a shot in transition, but Wolf made the save with 1.1 ticks on the clock.
• After more than 11 minutes of scoreless action in overtime, Tabasso ended the game when she cut inside her defender and slipped a shot over the right shoulder of Federico.
