• The Short Story: Sophomore Emily Kenul totaled a game-high five points to lead the 19th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team to a 13-12 win over visiting Boston University Friday afternoon. Kenul scored three goals and handed out a pair of assists, including on the game-winning goal.
How it Happened
• The teams traded goals over the opening 14 minutes of the game and Hopkins led 4-3 on junior Alexis Maffucci's goal. With the game tied at 3-3, freshman Miranda Ibello slipped a pass to Maffucci in traffic, and she beat Caroline Meegan from in tight.
• The Terriers got back-to-back goals from Mallory Collins to take a 5-4 lead with 12:18 to play in the half. But the Blue Jays answered with goals from sophomores CeCe Finney and Emily Kenul in a 57-second span. Finney beat Meegan on a low shot while Kenul dodged through the fan, avoided a second slide and scored from the doorstep.
• Collins tied the game with her fourth of the afternoon on a scoop and score after a Caroline Federico save at the 4:08-mark. But Hopkins answered just 62 seconds later when senior Dene' DiMartino dumped the ball to a cutting Shannon Fitzgerald to put the Jays on top 7-6.
• DiMartino and Jill Horka swapped goals to open the second half scoring and the Blue Jays led 8-7. Hopkins followed with a three-goal as it built a four-goal lead with 19:05 to go. Kenul got things going with a free position goal for the game's first two-goal lead. Junior Haley Schweizer then dodged from behind and scored from her knees in the high slot. Senior Jenna Reifler then took a pass from Kenul in the right alley and scored on a bouncer to make it 11-7.
• Remy Nolan ended the run with a goal in transition for the Terriers, but Kenul answered with a goal off a roll-dodge at 16:18. Ninety-seconds later, Nolan got her second of the day, igniting a four-goal run for Boston University to tie the game with 6:08 to go. DiMartino got what proved to be the game-winner just 61 seconds later when she blew a shot past Meegan from seven yards out.
