• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins volleyball team defeated Muhlenberg in three sets Friday in Goldfarb Gymnasium to improve to 7-3 on the season and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference. Juniors Elizabeth Wuerstle and Erica Johnston combined for 23 kills in the Blue Jays' win over the Mules.
How it Happened
• Johns Hopkins came out strong to open the match, recording a hitting percentage of 0.324 and holding Muhlenberg to a 0.037 percentage. Elizabeth Wuerstle and Erica Johnston each tallied four kills, while Sasha Gorelik and Ally Hirsch added three kills apiece in the opening set against the Mules.
• JHU won a close second set as Johnston notched four kills for the second straight set and dished an ace. Wuerstle also continued her successful night with three kills on four attempts without an error. The Blue Jays also performed well defensively, forcing a 0.000 hitting percentage by the Mules, with Gorelik recording a solo block and block assist in the set.
• Sarah Elnozahy served three aces in the final set to give the Blue Jays the 25-18 win. The freshman setter finished the match with 27 assists in addition to her three aces. The Mules held the advantage in kills in the third set, although Wuerstle tallied six kills without an error in the set. Wuerstle also added a service ace and block.
What it Means
• The Blue Jays earned their 20th win over Muhlenberg with the 3-0 sweep; it also marks their 14th three-set win.
• Hopkins improved to 7-3 on the season, the best 10-game start under head coach Tim Cole.
• JHU picked up back-to-back sweeps for the first time since the 2014 season.

• Johns Hopkins will hit the road for a couple of Centennial Conference matches. The Blue Jays will travel to Washington College to face the Shorewomen September 28 at 7 p.m. before taking on Swarthmore October 1 at 1 p.m.
• JHU will return home to Goldfarb Gymnasium October 5 as it hosts Franklin & Marshall at 7 p.m.
