How it Happened
• Trailing 7-4 following a Mlynue Reeves three-point play, sophomore Michael Gardner drained a pull-up jumper to spark an 18-4 run. Gardner, graduate student Sam Gordon, senior Ryan Curran and junior Kyle Doran combined to score the 18 points as Hopkins took a 22-11 lead with 9:28 to play in the half.
• Pete Christ and Reeves then hit back-to-back buckets in the paint to trim the deficit to seven. Curran answered with a jumper at 7:40 to give the Blue Jays a 24-15 lead.
• Reeves came back with a pair of free throws to kick-start a 9-5 spurt that cut the lead to just four with 3:17 to go in the half. Gordon and Mateus Maccieri traded baskets to make it 31-27 at the 2:24 to play. Curran had the final say of the half with back-to-back jumpers, including a buzzer-beater in the paint, to give Hopkins a 35-27 lead at the half.
• Sophomore Daniel Vila opened the second-half scoring with a three-pointer, followed by a Gardner 15-footer to push the Blue Jays' lead to 13. The Bullets answered with seven straight points to cut the deficit to six.
• Back-to-back buckets by Gardner quickly made it a double-digit game. Doran followed with a conventional three-point play to stake Hopkins to a 47-34 lead with 11:25 to play.
• Gettysburg twice cut the lead to 10 points over the ensuing three-and-a-half minutes. That's as close as the visitors could get however. Gordon scored eight of 11 points for the Blue Jays during a three-and-a-half-minute span that saw their lead balloon to 21 points at the 3:27-mark. Hopkins would go on to win by 20 points.
