? The Short Story: Junior CeCe Finney scored 1:27 into the first overtime to lift 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins to an 11-10 win over visiting Georgetown Wednesday night. Freshman Maggie Schneidereith notched a game and career-high six points while senior Caroline Federico made a career-best 15 saves.
How it Happened
? Georgetown struck first, scoring the game's first two goals and four of the first six. Taylor Gebhardt put the Hoyas on top just 85 seconds in with a free position goal. It was the first of five free position goals for the visitors. Eighty-two seconds later, Georgetown held a two-goal lead as Francesca Whitehurst scored on a sidearm shot from the middle of the fan.
? Schneidereith put the Blue Jays on the board at the 26:21 mark. Junior Shannon Fitzgerald carried the ball into the offensive end and found Schneidereith open on the doorstep for the first of her four goals on the night.
? Gebhardt answered with another free position goal to stake Georgetown to a 3-1 lead with 24:59 to play. Just 50 seconds later, freshman Lexi Souder took a pass from Fitzgerald and one-timed a shot past Maddy Fisher to make it a one-goal game.
? Emily Ehle drew a free position and scored at the 19:05-mark to give the Hoyas back a two-goal lead. Senior Alexis Maffucci responded with back-to-back goals, a little over six minutes apart, to pull the Blue Jays even with 10:47 to go in the half.
? Whitehurst put the visitors back on top with yet another free position goal at 4:23. Hopkins got goals from Schneidereith and sophomore Miranda Ibello to go up 6-5 at the half. Schneidereith took a pass from senior Haley Schweizer and scored on a hip high shot at 1:29. Schneidereith then slipped a pass to Ibello in the high slot and she went high-to-low on Fisher to give the Blue Jays their first lead of the game.
? Finney pushed the Jays' lead to two just 46 seconds into the second half when she picked the bottom left corner off a Schneidereith feed. Hannah Seibel and Morgan Ryan answered with back-to-back goals just 43 seconds apart to tie the game at seven.
? Maffucci then completed her hat trick, the third of her career, at 16:22 to put Hopkins back on top. She took a pass from Schweizer and went high-to-low from the left alley. Schneidereith followed with her third of the night, scoring on a redirect on the doorstep with five ticks on the possession clock.
? Ehle pulled the Hoyas back within one at the 11:52-mark, dodging from the right side and scoring in traffic. Georgia Tunney knotted the score for the fourth time with 5:34 to play, scoring from the slot. Schneidereith gave Hopkins back the lead with 2:56 to play, as she dodged from right goal line extended and beat Haelle Chomo from in tight.
? Georgetown pulled even yet again when Ehle drew a free position shot. Instead of shooting, she passed to Gebhardt, who scored from the doorstep with 43.1 seconds remaining. The Hoyas won the ensuing draw and Seibel fired a shot as time expired, but Federico made the save.
? Schweizer won the draw to start overtime and worked the ball around. Ibello found Finney in the slot, and she scored on a quick-stick shot to win it for the Blue Jays.
What it Means
? Hopkins improves to 11-11 all-time against Georgetown and has won three straight in the series. This is Hopkins' first overtime win since an 11-10 win over Towson on April 25, 2015. This is also the third overtime game in the last four meetings between the two.
? Schneidereith's six points are a career-high and are the most by a freshman since Taylor D'Amore had six at UMBC on April 13, 2011.
? Federico's 15 saves are a career-high and are the most by a Blue Jay keeper since KC Emerson made 16 at George Washington on March 8 2014. Her 15 saves are also tied for the fifth most in school Division I history.
