The Basics
? Score: Johns Hopkins-13, Vanderbilt-8
? Records: JHU (8-2) ? VU (4-3)
? Location: Baltimore, MD ? Homewood Field
? The Short Story: Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team got three points from three players to beat visiting Vanderbilt, 13-8, on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened
? Hopkins jumped out to a two-goal lead with goals from junior Shannon Fitzgerald and Haley Schweizer in the opening six minutes. After a pair of saves by Lily Argyle, Fitzgerald picked up a ground ball and beat Argyle over the top for the game's first goal. Schweizer then dodged the right alley and picked the lower left corner to double the Jays' lead.
? Vanderbilt answered with a pair of goals in just an 80-second span to knot the score at two with 17:37 to play. Melanie Becker scored off the dodge to get the Commodores on the board at 18:57 and Julie Blaze followed with an unassisted tally.
? The Blue Jays capitalized in transition to retake the lead at the 15:18-mark. Blaze rang a shot off the post that ricocheted all the way out to the restraining line. Senior Maddie Bodden came out of a scrum with the ball and sparked the Jays' clear. On the other end of the field, sophomore Miranda Ibello found an open Maggie Schneidereith in the right alley, and she scored to make it 3-2.
? Emily Mathewson pulled the `Dores even for the second time, scoring on a left-handed shot from the top of the fan at 12:58. Senior Alexis Maffucci responded, and started a four-goal Blue Jay run, with a quick-stick goal off a feed from Schneidereith. Sophomore Nicole DeMase then scored back-to-back goals and Fitzgerald closed the half with a free position goal.
? Trailing 7-3, Vanderbilt got consecutive free position goals from Becker and Mathewson to cut the deficit to two with 20:25 to play. That's as close as the visitors would get as the Blue Jays outscored the `Dores, 6-3, over the final 18 minutes.
? Ibello and junior Emily Kenul scored a pair of quick goals at 17:24 and 16:07 to push the lead back to four. Junior CeCe Finney drew a free position, but instead passed to Ibello, who was open on the left post, for the score. Kenul then spun on her defender in the middle of the fan and beat Argyle top-shelf to stake Hopkins to a 9-5 lead.
? Becker scored on another free position shot just over a minute later, but Fitzgerald answered with her third of the day at the 10:22-mark and Hopkins led 10-6.
? Blaze scored from seven meters out to pull Vanderbilt back within three with nine minutes on the clock. Hopkins once again answered. Kenul slam-dunked a pass from Ibello just 30 seconds later to make it a four-goal game again. Schweizer then scored from the left alley off the dodge and the Jays led 12-7 with 5:52 to go.
? Blaze got one back for the `Dores, scoring off a Mackenzie Lange feed with 3:27 to play. Freshman Lexi Souder earned a free position shot with two seconds remaining and then passed to Schneidereith who buried her shot with 0.7 seconds showing.

What it Means
? Hopkins improves to 9-10 all-time against Vanderbilt and has won three straight in the series.
? The win is Hopkins' 200th as a Division I program. JHU is now 200-123 (.619) since moving to Division I in 1999.
? The Commodores' eight goals are the fewest they have scored this season and are more than five goals below their season average.
? Bodden's eight ground balls are a career high and the most by a Blue Jay since Meghan Burnett had eight versus Towson on April 30, 2003. It is also tied for the fifth most in school Division I history.
